Zamfara First Lady commences distribution of food items to vulnerable groups

The Zamfara First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Matawalle has distributed food items and other relief materials to less privileged in the society .
It was gathered that the exercise is an initiative of Northern Governor’s Wives.
Similarly the children of the Governor lead by Abduljalal Bello distirbuted 15,000 Ramadan packages containing food items to less priviledged across Zamfara State.
Hajiya Matawalle who spoke at the inauguration of the distribution of the items in Gusau , said the gesture was aimed at supporting the vulnerable groups, especially women and children to cushion the effects of COVID-19.
“It is my honour and privilege to commence the distribution of 5,000 packages of palliatives that contain assorted grains comprising rice, millet, wheat, maize, macaroni, spaghetti and sugar.
“This gesture will continue and we hope it will bring comfort to women and children especially during this Ramadan fast.
“As we are all aware, in the past few weeks, many state governments including Zamfara have taken strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
“The lockdown which is to ensure that everyone stays at home is one of such preventive measures.
“It is in the light of this pandemic, that my office will be channelling all its efforts towards providing relief packages to cushion the hardship on women as a result of the lockdown at this critical time,’’ she said.
According to the governor’s wife, her empowerment programme which is a cash based transfer programme, will now be geared towards providing palliatives for women across the 14 local government areas of the state.
“On behalf of the entire women and children of this state, l will like to use this medium to express my gratitude to my husband, Gov. Bello Matawalle for providing palliatives to vulnerable groups in the state, amidst the lockdown,’’ she said.
She called on women in the state to continue to take steps to protect themselves and their children by following the guidelines given by health professionals.
She appealed to people of the state to use Ramadan period to embark on special prayers and seek Allah’s intervention to end COVID-19 pandemic all over the world.
