Nigerians yet to gets dividends of democracy— ADC Chieftain

The National Organising Secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Alhaji Ibrahim A Suleiman has rated democracy low in Nigeria 21 years after the end of military rule.

Speaking ahead of the 60th Independent Anniversary Ibrahim A Suleiman opines that Nigeria may be celebrating 21 uneventful years of democracy.

He posted that as one of those who fought to end military rule and the enthronement of democracy, he stand to say boldly that Nigerians are yet to enjoy dividends of democracy because of poor, inefficient, selfish and corrupt leadership foisted on the country: the citizens are worse off today compared even the days of the military dictators.

According to him despite 21 years of democracy, Nigeria is not yet out of the woods and  citizens are the worst for it because of poor leadership.

He added that it is sad to observe that the Nation are yet to enjoy basic amenities of life that developed countries enjoy such as uninterrupted electricity supply, potable drinking water, good roads, access to health-care and education almost 60 years after independence.”

” We fought to drive away military regime in 1992/1999 but the military dropped their khaki and hijacked our struggle in agbada and failed to create a virile democratic environment”. This he says explains the challenges the system faces.

“What you don’t have you can never give. The retired military in  Babariga can never give us dividends of democracy if they are not adaptive, rather they have foisted their undemocratic command and control tradition in the polity. No wonder you now see rising cases of insurgency, kidnapping,   killer-herdsmen, wanton killing of innocent Nigerians and other criminal activities.”

The ADC chieftain claimed that Nigeria is now in dire and urgent need of good and transformational leaders that are purpose driven, with fear of God and love of the people.   “Nigeria needs leaders such as we have in Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore. We fervently need leaders that want to genuinely serve the people and not looters and wasters of our commonwealth”.

He  however admonished Nigerians to persevere and as parties like ADC and leaders like the national chairman Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu are set to bring succur to the People and move Nigeria to compete amongst the top 10 countries in the world. Continuing, he urge them to note that salvation is in parties like ADC and not those that have controlled and corrupted the system since 1999 both at states and federal levels.

Suleiman explained that ADC as the only authentic platform in the democratic process, the party is working around the clock to see that Nigerians truly enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He added that his party will attend to the impending or looming revolution of the unemployed youths by implementing serious empowerment programs, massive entrepreneurial initiatives and skill acquisition, instead of the wild goose chase and  wastefulness of the current regime. He says that insecurities will be a thing of the past. He begs Nigeria to shine their eyes and work with ADC.

“All our political structures should be strengthened and the doctrine of separation of power reinforced.

” We are going to deemphasize the use of money in our politics.” he said
