2000 kidnaped victims set free as 62 bandits embraces peace initiative in Zamfara

Zamfara State Government says sixty two bandits, including the son of late Buharin Daji have embraced the peace initiative of the state government.

The newly appointment Zamfara State  Commissioner of Information, Hon. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in Kaduna North West Nigeria on 2nd April,2021.

Dosara disclosed that in the process, two thousand kidnapped victims aided and abetted by the repentant bandits have regained freedom.

According to him, the repentant bandits are also helping in campaigning and convincing those bandits yet to accept the dialogue and reconciliation process to do so.

The Commissioner explained that the repented bandits are also helping in the identification of the leaders of the recalcitrant bandits, including their camps and location for dialogue and reconciliation.

“Since the commencement of the dialogue and peace process with the bandits, Zamfara State was free of any attack and kidnapping for almost eight (8) months, until recently when kidnapping and light attacks resurfaced,” he added.

Hon. Dosara added that available records revealed that over Two Thousands Six Hundred and Nineteen (2,619) people were killed between 2011 and 2019 in addition to the One Thousand One hundred and Ninety (1,190) people kidnapped by bandits.

According to him, records also show that the sum of Nine Hundred and Seventy Thousands (970,000,000) Million Naira was paid as ransom, while Fourteen Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy Eight animals were rustled within the period. Over One Hundred Thousands (100,000) people were displaced from their ancestral homes.
