Kids & Teens Resource Centre to engages 150 teachers,50 Corp members in HIV Education

Kids & Teens Resource Centre in collaboration with UNESCO and support from Swiss Goverment is engaging 150 teachers in its Family Life HIV Education, (FLHE) for in and out of schools young people in Kaduna state.
The Chief Executive Officer of Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Falana Martin-Mary, disclosed this at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting held in Kaduna North West, Nigeria on 28th June,2021.
According to him, the 150 teachers will be responsible for the first phase of the project which will deal with in-schools students; while 50 NYSC members will be engaged with out-of-schools people.
Martin-Mary explained that the adolescents in Nigeria today are facing serious health challenges which include; unwanted and unplanned pregnancy, unsafe abortion, engaging multiple sexual partnerships, sexual transmission infections.
Others challenges according to him, are; HIV/AIDS, sexual violence and harassment, early sexual début, drugs and substance abuse, prostitution, and forced marriages.
He said the 150 stakeholders will enlightened over one hundred thousand young people in Kaduna state.
He expressed dismay that despite the widespread outcry over rising cases of rape in kaduna, there seems to be no end to it, hence all stakeholders must join hands together to tackle the menace.
Speaking earlier, the Team Leader, Hope for Communities and Children Initiative, (H4CC), Hadiza Umar, said the meeting is a sensitization of all stakeholders who are teachers, health officers, and the media to prepare them for the project.
She said all stakeholders have agreed that FHLE will do Kaduna in and out-of-schools youth good in educating them on HIV/AIDS, rape, among others.
Hadiza Umar, explained that the project will enlighten the Youth on HIV and how to safeguard their future by learning to ZIP up.
