Kaduna State partners Media on State Development Plans.
In its quest to maintain open and transparent governance, the Kaduna state government is to partner with media in its State development plan
Permanent secretary, Planning and budget commission, Mrs. Phobie Yayi – Sukai disclosed this during the Media breakfast held at Kaduna North West Nigeria
Mrs. Yayi said the role of the media in disseminating information to the public can not be underestimated, hence they are critical stakeholders.
“Whatever we do without the media remains with us. Media is our next target, our next-door neighbour”, she said
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Director, Planning, Badamasi Musa said the State Fiscal Transparency accountability and Sustainability( SFTAS) programme is a world bank initiative which provides performance-based grants and technical assistance to the state to implement the 22. Fiscal sustainability plan ( SFP) and the Open government partnership( OGP)
He added that SFTASi initiative is necessary exercise to boost land and property records in the state to achieve standard in line with global best practice.
He explained that the grants also have provision for capacity strengthening for the state base on it to help the state achieve the DLIS
He informed the media that the SFTAS programs will increase fiscal Transparency and accountability, strengthen domestic revenue mobilization, increase efficiency in public expenditure and strengthen debt sustainability.
In his remarks, Executive director, Jolad media Concept, Mr. James Joshua said the media partners were invited to know actually what Kaduna state government is doing and its focus on the State Development Plan.
He explained that the SDP is a people-oriented project program, but the Citizens have ownership of what the govt is doing and that is why the media have a great role to play.
“The media is not coming here to antagonize anyone, we are here to get information and I think that is something that we have started doing in Kaduna state and we will continue to do it”
The media is a partner in progress, we are the fourth realm of the country. Only the media has the Constitutional responsibility to hold the govt accountable for its actions and inactions, and we do that with all sincerity of purpose and with the interest of the citizens at heart. That is the reason why we are here”, he noted.
