2023: INEC Drums Support For Youth, Women, PWDs In Political Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on all Political parties to imbibe the ideology of inclusivity by creating a level playing field for Women, Youths, Persons living with disability to participate fully in electoral process especially in elective office.

The Kaduna State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Asmau Sani Maikudi stated this during sensitization seminar organised by Development and Peace Initiative (DPI) also known as Justice, Development and Peace/Caritas (JDPC) held in Kaduna on the 22nd June, 2022

Dr. Maikudi who was represented Rukaiya Sani Imam said it is only by doing so that every segment of the society will feel the impact of freedom of participation and representation in the Legislative Assemblies and the Governance of the country over time especially the coming of 2023 general elections.

She said the INEC has recorded landmark achievements made by the Commission towards the 2023 general elections is the conversion of Voting Points (VPs) to polling units (PUs) across the federation.

“Kaduna State had 5,102 PUs during the 2019 GEs, we now have additional 2, 910 VPs converted into PUs across the state, thereby bringing the total number of PUs in the state to 8,012”

She further explained that Kaduna State has received it’s consignment of 31,688 copies of the printed PVC and have started distribution already.

In his remark, the Admin, secretary of INEC, Kaduna office, Mohammed Auwal Mashi said the 2023 general elections will be one the most credible election as the commission has put in place mechanism to ensure smooth conduct.

He, however, appealed to the participants to get their Permanent Voter’s cards (PVC) before the end of registration.

In his welcome address, the Director of Development and Peace Initiative (DPI) also known as Justice, Development and Peace/Caritas (JDPC) Reverend Joshua Y. Achir explained that the event is organized by the Catholic Church, Kaduna Diocese to create the needed awareness and to help participants to know what the PVCs is all about.

Father Achir thanked the INEC officials who did justice to the matter.
