President, Federal Government College, Jos, Old Students’ Association, Dr. Onyekachi Onubogu said his grandiose plan for the association is to leave it better than he met it.

Subsequently, he announced his leadership plan to launch a medical scheme to take care of the health needs of the association’s members at a discounted rate.

According to him, the health cover initiative would take effect from January 2023.

Onyekachi gave the hint at the 16th Annual Convention of the Federal Government College, Jos Old Student Association, held in Enugu between November 17 and 20.

“Today I want to announce that central to our commitment during elections, we are set (after strong negotiations and support from the USOSA PG) to launch the FGCJOSA/HYGEIA medical scheme that will provide medical cover to our old students at a significantly discounted rate.

“This cover will start effective Jan 2023 and the PRO will share details in the next 6 weeks on how we can all sign up, he said.

He further told the members of the association that his leadership would leave behind a footprint on the sand of time by the end of its tenure.

“We set out as an exco to define exactly what legacies we wanted to leave behind when finishing our tenure. In doing this we came up with a few cardinal principles that we truly believed would make our association stronger, better, and more beneficial to all which include building a more financially stable association, and encouraging infrastructural support in our school to augment what the Federal Government is doing for the school.

Others are creating avenues to support the less privileged amongst members, build a platform that connects all members, continue to provide avenues of information sharing and development and build association chapters and encourage participation by all in the spirit of unity.

“In the past year, we have truly set out on this daunting journey and continue with your support to work towards achieving the goals we set for ourselves.

“As highlighted in my quarterly letter, we have done drug donations to our school, organized a health fair, handed over a few projects to the school as donated by various sets and other subgroups of our association, engaged with the school to support our able principal in her drive to maintain the high standards of education our school is known for. We have organized online training programs to help guide especially our younger older students as they embark on the journey of adulthood.

“As we may be aware, FGC Jos will be 50 next year and we will be working with the school and unveiling a series of activities to mark this milestone. I will ask and plead with every one of us to get involved”.
