Payment of 20bn to Ghost Consultant: NYCN Wants NNPC GCEO to Step Aside

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called for the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC), Kolo Mele Kyari, to step aside to allow for an unfettered probe by the House of Representatives into the payment of 20 billion Naira to a ghost consultant.

In a statement made available to the media in Kaduna, the President of the Council, Comrade Isah Abubakar, accused the NNPC of manipulating the fuel subsidy regime, which was seen during the acute fuel scarcity that lasted over six months.

The statement noted that during the dark period, Nigerians were buying fuel at about 400 Naira per litre, while the Federal Government spending on subsidy was skyrocketing. The group, therefore, urged the House of Representatives to probe the NNPC beyond the 20 billion Naira contracts scam.

“The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria is also threatening a massive civil protest if the GCEO refuses to step aside. We urge other civil society organizations to join us in this struggle to hold the NNPC accountable for its actions.

“The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria believes that a thorough investigation into the payment of 20 billion Naira to a ghost consultant is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

“The group is calling on the House of Representatives to take urgent action and investigate the NNPC thoroughly. The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria believes that the outcome of the investigation will help to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the oil and gas industry and the government as a whole.

“The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria is committed to ensuring that the NNPC is held accountable for its actions and that the management of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry is transparent and accountable.

“The group believes that the future of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry depends on the actions taken by the government and the NNPC to address the issues raised by the payment of 20 billion Naira to a ghost consultant.”
