Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Kaduna State Council, has charged members to keep upgrading and expanding their professional prowess through training if they must remain useful and relevant in the ever-changing world.
The Chairman of the State Council, Surv Daudu Andrew, asserted this during the Oath taking of new exco and induction of new members into the institution held in Kaduna on 3rd of June, 2023.
According to him, professionals in the sector should consistently seek to improve themselves for adequate competition, saying surveyors must eschew all tendencies capable of undermining the professional ethics in the overall interest of the people and country at large.
Surv. Andrew called on the Kaduna State Government to ensure their inclusion of the members of the institution in government projects, stressing that no projects can stand the test of time and no Certificate of Occupancy is free from litigation if there is no surveyors’ contribution.
He said Kaduna state is number two on the National ladder of the institution in terms of dues payments.
He stressed that the current leadership of the Institution is working in sync with the government and its agencies to create the necessary environment for growth, peace, and harmony within the profession that will reduce land litigations in the state.
“It is in the light of this fact that I call on all members of this great Institution to see one another as stakeholders by joining hands together to make the Institution great. With the steadfast support and productive partnership, I am confident that we are well on our way towards actualizing our set objectives of tapping out limitless potentials for the growth and development of our great members.”
In her remarks, the National Financial Secretary of the Institution, Surv Mrs. Oladunni Opatoyinbo, said the leadership at the National level will continue to provide leadership and sustain the good qualities and service that have brought the Surveyors to this point today.
“I challenge you to be instruments in improving and perpetuating the positive gains we are already experiencing. The future could be a lot better,” she stated.
Similarly, Surv. Maikano Samson, the Chairman of the planning Committee, said 14 members were elevated by the Institution and inducted.
According to him, the number of Surveyors inducted by the State is the total number of memberships of some states, an indication that the Kaduna state council is on course.
In his remarks, the State Treasurer of NIS, Surv. Ephraim Musa, tasked newly inducted members and Associate members to explore the open space of change to be able to identify, embrace, and bring in greater values for the long-term benefit of the profession and the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors.
Surv. Musa, therefore, urges them to distinguish themselves through dint of handiwork and professionalism.
