Clergy Tasks Youths to be Agents of Positive Change

Nigerian youths have been urged to become agents of positive change in order to contribute to shaping the future of the Church and their communities.

The Senior Pastor of House of Purpose Ministry, U. Sunday, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Apostle Yakubu Yusuf, asserted this during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Youth Camp with the theme “Excellent Spirit,” held on August 20, 2023.

According to him, the majority of today’s youths seem to be distracted from matters of faith by external influences. Many appear to be materialistic in their outlook, which affects their service to God.

Reading from the Book of Daniel 6:3-5, the clergy said that the youth must strive to possess an excellent spirit.

However, he expressed dismay that many youths do not manifest this excellent spirit today due to the prevalence of the get-rich-quick syndrome. He stressed that the pursuit of worldly things and the desire for success in life have led them to neglect seeking after God.

Apostle Yakubu, therefore, advised youths to seek God wholeheartedly in all their endeavors and to trust God as the source of all they need in life, just as Daniel did. This approach would make them outstanding, knowledgeable, and prosperous in all aspects of their lives.

He cautioned the youths to understand that life is a process and that the path to success is also a journey of growth.

“Therefore, they must learn to understand and appreciate the processes involved in achieving their goals. I also want the youths to comprehend that the messages from the pulpit are not meant to merely please, but rather to encourage and guide them in getting to know God better.”

“The youths should grasp the significance of waiting on God for sustenance in everything they engage in. With perseverance through the knowledge of God’s word and guided by an excellent spirit, they will achieve the best.”

“There’s always a reward for patience. The longer you nurture your seed, the stronger and better it will grow.”

He advised the youths to take control of their destinies. Everything they require for success is within them. What they need for greatness has been endowed by nature, and formal education only polishes their God-given talents.

In his address, the President of the Purpose Youth Fellowship, Lawrence Peter Gambo, noted that Nigeria is a land of immense possibilities. He emphasized that youths play a crucial role in its development.

He expressed awareness that people are often more invested in other pursuits rather than nurturing and developing youths to take up leadership positions, whether in the secular world or in the church.

“I believe this is a significant error, as the most considerable threat to Nigeria’s future lies with the next generation. Regrettably, the youths can no longer find role models among the current leadership.”

Similarly, the Pastor in Charge of the Purpose Youth Fellowship, Bernard Yero, urged the youth never to underestimate the power of their dreams. He advised them to dream big and then diligently work to transform those dreams into reality.

“Do not let any obstacle discourage you, as the path to success is often marked by setbacks and challenges. Embrace failure as a stepping stone to growth and innovation. Remember, you possess an excellent spirit, so you must have role models who inspire and nurture your talents.” He tasked the youth.
