Insecurity: Arewa Defense League backs Masari self defence approach

A Group under the auspices of Arewa Defense League, has thrown its weight behind the recent call by  Katsina State Governor, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari for communities to defend themselves against rural bandits and other criminal gangs.

This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Group Murtala Abubakar and made available to the media in Kaduna on 30th December, 2021.

The Group lauded  the promise by Gov. Masari to assist communities  acquire weapons.

Abubakar said the apparent failures of the military and other law enforcement agencies to protect citizens against bandits and other dangerous criminal has created an atmosphere where heavenly armed bandits operates freely in the Northwest and part of Niger State with impunity as they rapes, plunder, maim and kill citizens with reckless abandoned.


“Many leaders of thoughts,  opinion Mulder and  Associations had called on communities to take up arms and defend themselves. Some people expressed the  fears  that such calls if heeded, could degenerate into anarchy.


“However, the latest initiatives by  Katsina State government to assist communities armed  themselves with some sort of official regulations will balance the use of terror by these criminals thereby, reduce the frequent attracts on communities.”
