CSOs To Partner With Kaduna State Anti-corruption Agency In Fighting Corruption

Civil Society Organizations in Kaduna state have promised to support Kaduna state Anti-corruption Agency in its bid to eradicate or minimize corrupt practices in the state.

Mr Yusuf Goje of Coalition of Associations for Leadership, peace, empowerment and development (CALPED) disclosed this during a one-day public dialogue on strengthening community-Led Anti-corruption and accountability engagement for stakeholders held in Kaduna on 26th, May, 2022.

He said corruption is the bane of the poverty and insecurity bedevilling the country, saying there is no visible development amidst looting and shortchanging.

Speaking about the meeting, he said the objectives are to increase stakeholder awareness of the audit law, institutions and process towards better transparency, accountability and stakeholders’ engagement in fighting corruption; brainstorm on approaches for better collaboration in the audit process for both vertical and accountability towards improved quality of service delivery and curbing corruption and agree and commit to strategic actions for improving the audit process as a channel for community-led anti- Corrupt engagement in Kaduna state.

In his remark, the head of the anti- corruption unit, Barrister Hassan Danjuma said the agency responsibility is to track any corrupt practices emanating from money in Kaduna state.

He stressed that the challenges of the agency includes, lack of awareness of its activities by the citizens, insufficient facilities and Manpower.

Similarly, Mr. Francis Musa from the Local Govt. audit said audit documentation is an important step in maintaining consistency and quality with the audit team.

He explained that the audit process falls into five categories which includes: preparation, planning, fieldwork, Audit Reporting and issue management.

He advised CSOs and the Media to work together with the audit department in other to get the two reports of government spending.

The representative of the one sponsor, Mambayya House, Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Bayero University Kano, Samaila Suleiman, PhD. Said the organization in line with a Mac Aurthur foundation is investing in training CSOs in the area of auditing and Anti-corruption law in other to enlighten them and ensure that corruption is reduced to the barest minimum.
