Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai has expressed a hope that a Children’s parliament will be inaugurated before he left office and to enshrine it in the state laws to become part of the Kaduna State legal system before the end of his tenure in office.
He asserted this when he received a delegation of pupils from Kaduna State public schools in commemoration of this year’s Children’s Day Celebration held at the government House on 27th May 2022.
Given this, El-Rufai directed the state Commissioners for Human Services and Social Development and that of Justice to draft a legal and administrative framework for the establishment of the Children’s Parliament.
According to him, the legal framework will define who should be a member of the parliament and duration among others.
He added that the State will love to have the Children input policy debate, especially those affecting them directly.
Welcoming the students to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, he advised the students to focus on their education and building good character.
Speaking earlier, the Advocacy and Communication Coordinator of Save the Children International, Hajiya Murjanatu Kabir, appreciated the Governor for his tremendous effort to improve children’s lives.
She lauded the Children’s presentation, especially the part requesting the government to support them to amplify their voices by engaging them in decision making.
Hajiya Murjanatu Kabir also commended the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development to ensure that children are supported in their learning and protected.
