Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority, (KADCHMA) said its introducing daily/ weekly contributory payment as part of its effort to make enrolment payment into the scheme more flexible for residents.

Director-General of the Authority Abubakar Hassan discloses this during a meeting with the Executive of Associations of Tricycle (Keke Napep) operators and owners in Kaduna on 25th August 2022.

Hassan said the Authority is embarking on a pilot project with daily earners to boost enrollment into the health insurance scheme

According to him, KADCHMA intends to make payment flexible to accommodate wider coverage.

” We intend to start a pilot project with daily earners who cannot afford to pay once a year.

” We are making daily or weekly contributions for them to ease payment for them.

He said they are starting the pilot project with the tricycle Association because the have over 40,000 members in the state.

“The contributory health scheme is a way of contributing funds for the payment of healthcare services by all residents of the state.

“The scheme will cover health care services rendered to beneficiaries at their selected health care facilities.”

Hassan said that the individual premium for health insurance at the agency cost is N10,650 annually while the family premium costs N57,000 annually.

“When you break 10,650 into 90 days or 60 days, you will see that you will end up paying 120 in 90 days or 240 which is a reasonable amount a day.

Responding, Garba Rabiu, the State Chairman tricycle owners association applauded the contributory health scheme.

He said due to the nature of their job, many of them are exposed to a lot of dangers, and the daily and weekly contributions will enable members to pay with ease.

He said the poor response to the 10,650 was because most of the tricycle riders are not owners of the tricycle and do remit money on daily basis to their owners.

He said some of them hire purchases and it makes it difficult for them to afford.

“With this development of daily and weekly contributions, most of our members will be able to register in other to access health services.

Mohammed Jamilu Aliyu, Zonal Chairman Kawo, expressed fear that it shouldn’t be like other programs the had with the state government on local government dues which the are supposed to pay once but end up paying to three local government per day which is not part of their deal.

“This is a good initiative because it will help members pay without difficulties.

“We want them to involve our associations in registering members because presenting their bank accounts individually will not be in other but the association will collect the money and transfer it to the scheme accounts.

The leaders committed to start as leaders by registering and sensitizing members on the importance of the registration.
