Northern Group calls for fair sharing of fuel subsidy removal

The Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) has called on the Federal Government to disclose how it intends to spend the four hundred billion Naira saved from the removal of fuel subsidies on petroleum products in the country.

The President of the Movement, Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, issued the challenge in a news statement to media organizations.

According to him, the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should clearly explain to Nigerians how such a significant amount of money will be spent.

He noted that by simple arithmetic, each week the federal government can save one hundred billion Naira from fuel subsidy removal. If this amount is multiplied by fifty-two weeks, the federal government would save five trillion, two hundred billion Naira per annum.

Comrade Awwal Aliyu argued that the Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria (NCM), as an amalgamation of five hundred and ninety-three registered associations, would like to hear from the federal government about how such a large sum of money will be expended.

He added that the NCM would also like to know how Northern Nigeria will benefit from this substantial amount of money, as it is an ongoing process.

The President of the Movement explained that they are requesting the government’s explanation on how it intends to fairly distribute the saved money for meaningful growth and development of the nation’s economy. This is because many Nigerians are currently facing severe economic hardships as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.

Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu further called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to pay attention to how his subordinates handle issues for the betterment of the country.

He explained that the North has high expectations from his government, considering its voting contributions in the last Presidential election, which paved the way for his success.

The President of the Northern Consensus Movement also urged the federal government to harmonize the standard of living of Nigerians for a better tomorrow.
