The Member representing Zaria City constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Barr. Isma’ila Muhammad has fulfilled his promise to support education in Kaduna State by enrolling 300 children from his constituency into the JSS1 and JSS2 classes of the Business Training Center (BATC) under the Save the Children initiative.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, yesterday, Barr. Muhammad, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Education said that the enrollment is part of his commitment to ensure that each and every child returns to school in Zaria City.

He lamented that many children, within and outside Kaduna lack access to quality education, with some becoming incapable of catering to their own needs or supporting their families and society.

He, therefore, opined that the scholarship would provide the children with the opportunity to acquire skills that will help them become financially independent and useful to themselves, their families, and society at large.

“Today, we express our gratitude to Almighty Allah for giving us the strength and ability to launch our second phase under the Save the Children Initiative.

“Today, 300 students were enrolled into JSS1 and JSS 2 of the BATC. This is part of the commitment we undertake to support our people. We promised and Insha Allah, we have started.

“Last year, 50 students were enrolled and as I speak, they are pursuing their academic activity smoothly. We monitor them, we advise their parents and today, it is 300 students in skill acquisition and education.

I’m very happy with the presence of the project coordinator who is here with us and the support given tonto us with more than 500 books. We are grateful.”

While promising to support the school management in providing basic needs for the students, Barr. Muhammad disclosed that discussions are ongoing for the establishment of the parent-teacher association to monitor the school activities and growth of the children.

“In line with the Government policy and the reach out of school children, I assure you that we monitor the students through their parents and the teachers.

“We are discussing with the school management to see how we can incorporate parent-teacher association of the school so that we can continue to monitor the activities of the school.

“We are ready to support the school management to ensure that their needs are provided for the children to have a smooth training. My advice is for them to be very diligent and committed to different things.

“I even asked the school to establish what we call the mentorship education where students will be attached to some teachers for advice and guidance,” he said.
